Mother Nature got the best of Sycamore Speedway once again this last Friday. However, Saturday was another beautiful night filled with tons of action and good quality dirt racing. As drivers and fans started to pull in for the Old Milwaukee Classic, the weather started to drop. In the Super Late Model division raining champion Charlie Olson (28) found the fastest way around the lap. Taking fast time from Roger Markham’s (11) previous five in a row. Fans were able to enjoy great heat races which lead into am action packed start of the main event. With 40 laps the distance, Roger (11), and Jay Brendle (15) battled it out lap after lap. Both gentleman started the evening tied in points. The night ended with Brendle on top, Only two points ahead of Markham. Jason Kruse (47), only his second night of the season showed everyone he has not lost it. The 615 car driven by Matt Fabrizius was one to watch. The race surface was fast and had multiple ways around it. Fabrizius was proof of that. As he chased down the leaders the first 2/3rds of the race. Only two points night remian for the Super Late Models and Late Models. In the next two weekends champions will be made! Who will deserve the 2014 Super Late Model Championship? Roger Markham (11)? or, Jay Brendle (15)?
In the Late Model Divsion Jordan Jackowiak locked in his first championship! The remaining point positions will all still come down to the last night of racing. Linda Sparks (73J) won the Powder Puff heat and feature last Saturday. She currently holds onto the points lead but the young Mickee Runge (10) is only five points behind. Scott Vetter (56C), the current Compact points leader was victorious in both the Spectator and Compact divisions.
Saturday night was also the final 2014 exhibit of the IMRA Midget Lites. The IMRA’s completed their first full season with Sycamore Speedway. Aaron Schuck (53) was crowned the 2014 season champ. The 20 lap feature was won by Dan Drogmuller (76). Sycamore Speedway anounced that they are excited to see the IMRA’s in 2015. A Speedway representative confirmed that the IMRA Midget Lites will be returning to the Midwest Finest Clay Track in 2015.
This next weekend is the final Friday night at Sycamore Speedway. On the line up are Double Figure 8’s and Double Demoltion Derbies (all four of these events occur at the end of the show). Also, Spectator, Powder Puff, Compacts, and the Modified Compacts will be racing Gates open at 6pm. Qualifying at 7:15pm. Races to start at 8pm.
on Saturday, The Super Late Models have their Twin 25s. Plus Late Model, Spectator, Powder Puff, and Compacts will all be racing. Double points will be awarded to the Spectator, Powder Puff, and Compact divisions. Gates open at 6pm, Qualifying at 6:30pm. Races start at 7:30pm. For both nights admissions are $12 for adults, Kids ages 6-13 are $5. Under 5 years old are FREE.
