Sycamore Speedway was filled with exciting action and tons of entertainment, both Friday and Saturday nights were crowd pleasers, providing great racing and excitement in all classes. |
Friday night started out as any typical Friday. Great day with a chance of rain. Luckily for Sycamore Speedway, Mother Nature was ready to see some racing! The track settled in good for the drivers, during qualifying the track was already getting faster. Sycamore Speedway’s race season is officially surpassed it’s half way mark. This causes drivers to be on top of their game night after night. The point races have started. All races were door to door, and bumping and grinding, trying for every last point. With an abundance of Spectator cars, the Speedway decided to run a 30 lap Spectator feature. Once again, the one and only Michael Brancecum (29) was victorious. The Powder Puff division really turned a new leaf. Mickee Runge (10) realizing she has a shot at the championship, settled down and found a fast grove on the high side. She took the Trophy Dash and Feature winner trophies home. In the Compact Combat division, Scott Vetter and Lloyd Kozak won the features. Mike Cunz won the Modified Compact feature. |
The figure 8 was engulfed in total wreckage in the cross. One on One drags, always a crowd pleaser, did it again. The fans were on their feet as people raced their street cars around the track. What a better way to end the night than to have a compact size car Demolition Derby! Seven cars started the derby and they all had great hits. Eddie Brown out of Sandwich Illinois was the final car and able to drive out of the demo pit. |
Saturday night Sycamore Speedway was bombarded with a huge field of cars. With 21 4-Bar Late Models qualifying, Track Officials knew the night was going to be a good night. The night started off with three great door to door and three wide racing Trophy Dashes. Sponsored by the Chuck Olson Family. The drivers did not let the fans down after the dashes. Races were closes, and three wide throughout the night. Excitement was in the air. Almost every race had a photo finish in it, stated by a Sycamore Speedway Official. Mike Provenzano (M27) took home the win in the 4-Bar Late Model division. Dan White (03) brought his first feature win for the season home in the Super Late Models. Danny Markham (00) was successful in the Late Model division. Powder Puff driver Mickee Runge (10) was victorious again. Compact Feature went to Johnny Lovett (32c) after the 11x took a nasty tumble though the 3-4 turn. Michael Brancecum (29) took home the win in the Spectator division. |
Sycamore Speedway will be racing on Friday, August 1st. Spectator, Powder Puff, Compact, and Modified Compact racing, Figure 8, One on One Drags, and a full size car Demolition Derby. One Saturday, August 2nd, the 4-Bar Late Models return with a $1000.00 to win.
